I bought the "all you can jet pass" a few days ago. So I have been planning a twenty day trip to start the second my internship is over. I mean that almost litterally, five hours after my last day ends I wil be on a red eye to Boston. I am so stoked for the trip, the itinerary thus far includes: New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Boston, and Salt Lake.
I want to travel on the cheap so I am going to use couchsurfing.com. It is a simple concept, you can look up people who lives in the area and ask to crash on their couch. My parents are not huge fans of this part of my plans. After explaining it to my father he said, "Well, just be careful. You know, with your body." Awesome, my dad thinks I am a prostitute. Why did he have to start following me on twitter?
Dad, I sleep with people because they are hot or occasionally out of desperation. Sleeping with people for things, lodging, is whoring. Havent gotten that desperate... yet. But there is always something to be striving for.

Kurt, I'm so jealous--I wanted that All-You-Can-Jet pass so badly, but I work and don't have time time to actually use it to its potential.
As for lodging--I've been on couchsurfing.com for about 3 years. If you're completely new to the project, it can be hard to get hosts because you don't have any friends or positive reviews yet. I'll gladly help you beef up your profile. http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/ezrahorne/
Good luck, and be sure to blog about your trip(s) you lucky bastard.
Wow! This sounds like a great trip. What a great idea. Don't forget to blog along the way.
Youth hostels are also pretty cheap if you don't mind bunk beds.
I can also recommend Chicago, Washington, DC, Charleston, SC (or Savannah, GA), Key West and Los Angeles.
Another option, same idea: http://globalfreeloaders.com/
